Who Cares 4 Us is a series of books for schools covering Young Carers Awareness and Disability Awareness. It’s been a labour of love for the last 8 years and I’ve been on a personal journey as it’s developed.
I began it as a Writer, Carer, Mother of Young Carers and a Young Carers Awareness Campaigner. Over the course of the first 2 years I became completely disabled myself, thus enabling me to write from all perspectives. However my own disability has meant that this mammoth project has taken time to create and as I write this in January 2021 it’s still far from completion. I often think about the Tortoise and the Hare, who won in the end? Slow and steady will always win the race.
I’m not alone in this project either, not by a long shot! I am blessed to have over 100 guest writers who have all come on board to help me create a series of books that will really make a difference. Each writer shares their experience through poetry, case studies, stories, art and much more enabling the reader to see life from many perspectives all around the world.
I am taking a year out from working on this project in order to study and rewrite another book which is needed so badly at this time. So, please bear with me. I hope to have the first book of the series out by late 2022, and then each book thereafter will be released as it’s completed.
I have written a few stories for the series and I am making two of them available as free school resources on this website. Katie Boo and Amy Lou’s First Day at School. Suitable for ages 4 – 8 years old.
